Breeding quality Dales Ponies in the Loire Valley of Western France |
Welcome to the
Kingmaker Dales Pony Stud,
situated in the beautiful Loire Valley of Western France.
We are Helen and Martin Rhodes, an english couple who moved to France in August 2004. We run a small stud, set in forty acres, committed to preserving the Dales Pony, a talented but endangered, native British breed.
Our breeding motto is "temperament, type and action". With this aim in mind, we produce a small number of foals each year from our carefully selected stallions and mares.
Our foals are lightly handled from birth and sold to approved new homes where we hope they will be much-loved, and do well in a variety of equine disciplines.
Several of our ponies have achieved success in the show ring, but as we have a background in working horses (having bred and worked Percheron and Shire horses in the past) we are equally interested in promoting the all-round capabilities of the Dales Pony which stem from the breed's packhorse and driving roots.
We have sold Kingmaker ponies to the UK, USA, France, Belgium and Switzerland, and enjoy on-going contact with all of our buyers as we love to follow our youngstocks' progress.
All of our ponies are certified CLEAR for Foal Immunodeficiency Syndrome (FIS)*

January 2012 - Our Dales Pony stallion Thornville Pride has been approved by the Haras Nationaux to stand at public stud for the 2012 season. This stallion will be available to Dales Pony mares and other breeds at the National Stud, Grand Luce, Sarthe, France, if there is sufficient interest.
This is a one-off opportunity to gain access to new Dales Pony bloodlines in France. Due to the extremely high costs of the health checks our stallion must undertake, we are not likely to repeat this opportunity in subsequent years.
