Lass is the oldest mare at the Kingmaker Stud. In common with many elderly Dales mares, she is quite a character. She is gentle and very laid-back but can be aloof with strangers and definitely prefers to form strong bonds with a few select people of her choice!

Lass is a non-fading black whose coat does not fade in sunlight. She is broken to ride and is bombproof in traffic. In her younger days she was quite a talented ridden pony. She stamps height, athleticism and jumping ability on her foals.

Before coming to the Kingmaker Stud, Lass had bred one foal (Packsfield Dawn Star) who lives in Normandy as a broodmare.

Lass gave birth to her second foal Kingmaker Viking on 22nd February 2009. Viking was sold after weaning to a new home in Belgium where he is undergoing training to become a hippotherapy pony, working with children and adults with physical disabilities and/or learning difficulties.

Lass' third foal Kingmaker Apollo arrived ten days late on 1st May 2010. Apollo was sold in December 2010 to Michelle Low in Essex. He is a tall and athletic gelding with a very laid-back temperament who should mature to be a nice ride & drive pony. Apollo has been lightly shown at local level.

Lass' fourth foal Baron de Kingmaker was born on 15th June 2011. He is very similar in physical type to his full-brothers Viking and Apollo, but seems to have inherited more spirit  and a mischievous streak!

Baron was sold in February 2012 to a new home in eastern France where it is hoped he will mature to become a competive driving pony.

In 2012, Lass was retired from breeding. She is enjoying her new career as Chief Baby-sitter for our weanlings. Thankyou Lass for the three beautiful boys you have given us
