Lass is the oldest mare at the Kingmaker Stud and the Deputy Herd Leader. She is an excellent mother, and happiest with a foal at foot. Due to her advancing years, we only breed her in alternate years, so when she doesn't have a foal of her own, she serves as a wonderful baby-sitter for our weanling foals.
Lass is broken to ride and is totally bombproof in the heaviest of traffic. She has taught many people to ride, and was an enthusiastic all-rounder in her younger days. Lass tends to stamps height and jumping ability on her foals, and most of them inherit her easy-going temperament.
Before coming to the Kingmaker Stud, Lass had bred one foal (Packsfield Dawn Star) who now lives in Normandy.
Lass gave birth to her second foal Kingmaker Viking on 22nd February 2009. Viking was sold after weaning to a new home in Belgium where he has been trained as a hippotherapy pony, working with children and adults with disabilities.
Lass' third foal Kingmaker Apollo arrived ten days late on 1st May 2010. Apollo was sold in December 2010 to Emma Low in Essex. He is a tall, jet-black gelding over 15hh, with a very laid-back temperament. He has recently been broken to ride and is proving to be a true confidence-giver. He has been successfully shown inhand at local level.
Lass' fourth foal, a jet-black colt with a small star Baron de Kingmaker was born on 15th June 2011. He is smaller in stature than his full-brothers Viking and Apollo, but has more quality and spirit and excellent action.
Baron was sold in February 2012 to Isabelle Thibault who lives in the Yonne department of eastern France. He is now a licensed Dales stallion, approved for breeding by the Dales Pony Society and the Association Francaise du Dales. He has been broken to drive and it is hoped he will go on to have a successful competitive driving career.
Lass gave birth to her fifth foal Dakota de Kingmaker on 7th May 2013. Dakota was sold in December 2013 to Thierry Guedet in Normandy. It is hoped she will mature to be a competitive driving pony.
In May 2015 Lass gave birth to her sixth foal Flynn de Kingmaker. Flynn is an extremely rare BLUE ROAN colt who was RESERVED within hours of being advertised for sale. He left us after weaning in November 2015 for a new home in Lancashire where he will be run on as a stallion prospect.
Lass gave birth to her seventh foal Kingmaker High Force in April 2017. As she is now 24 years old, High Force will probably be her last foal, and what a cracker she has given us ! High Force is a rare BAY ROAN colt with no white markings. He has a superb temperament - confident, curious and friendly as they come. A super legacy for this grand old lady !
