Spice is a beautiful TOP CLASS Fell Pony mare who exudes intelligence, femininty and the true hardiness/stamina characteristic of her breed. She has good conformation and very good paces, notably a high-stepping trot, making excellent use of her knees and hocks. She has a beautiful head, with cute, incurving ears, and the most expressive eyes you can ever hope to find on a horse !
Spice is 14hh (the maximum height permitted in the Fell Pony breed) and she passes this height to her foals.
She is NOT broken to ride or drive, having spent her life as a broodmare, and has bred 8 foals to date ; six purebred Fell Pony foals and two Fell x Dales foals.
Her most well-known foal is the stunning dapple grey Fell Pony gelding Thornbeck Andrew, owned by Victoria Parker in the UK. Andrew is a dressage star, a member of the Fell Factor Display Team, and has even met her Her Majesty the Queen !
Spice's foals have proven to be talented all-rounders who can turn a hoof to inhand showing, ridden showing, dressage, TREC, show-jumping, cross-country and driving.
Spice spent her early years living a semi-feral life in true Fell Pony country at the Greenhome Stud. She is a confident mare but remains a bit suspicious of humans. This can make her a little bit difficult to catch at times, as she quietly steps a metre out of reach when you approach her. However, this is NEVER a problem because she ALWAYS comes to hand for a bucket of food, and the instant you slip a leadrope over her neck, she stands perfectly to have her headcollar put on. Once caught, she has perfect manners - leads, loads and ties without issues, and is an angel for the vet and farrier. She is a kind and gentle pony, who has never offered to kick or bite a person, and she is mid-ranking in our mixed herd of mares, foals and geldings.
