Fiona is an extremely gentle mare with good conformation and a pretty feminine head. She was bred by Richard & Freda Longstaff at the Lowhouses Stud in Teesdale and possesses some nice, traditional bloodlines.
Fiona has an obsession with water and is often seen clambering in and out of the field drinkers. She has been known to try and roll in rivers with a rider on board, and she passes this love of water on to all of her foals !
Fiona is safe but forward-going under saddle. She loves long distance rides and is extremely sure-footed over rough terrain. She is very in tune with the capability of her rider and adapts accordingly. For many years, Fiona was Helen's principal ridden pony, but in 2014 she handed over the reins to her son Kingmaker Union Jacques, and she is now fully retired to stud.
Fiona stamps a pretty head, gentle temperament and a genuine desire to please on all of her foals. They make talented all-rounders, and perfect family ponies. Her 3 UK-based foals Adventurer, Bryher and Defender are also having successful show careers.
Fiona is the dam of :
Packsfield Ella Beck - whole black filly, foaled May 2000.
Becky is a broodmare here at the Kingmaker Stud. She is the dam of Blizzard de Kingmaker who now lives in Switzerland, Calissi de Kingmaker who now lives in Germany, Envoy de Kingmaker who now lives in Florida, where he will be licensed as America's first roan Dales stallion in 2017, and Galaxy de Kingmaker who now lives in the UK.
Kingmaker Union Jacques - whole black colt, foaled May 2008.
Jac was originally sold to the Nipna Dales Pony Stud in County Durham, but was subsequently gelded and sold to a family home. He was backed at the end of 2011 and proved kind and safe enough to be ridden by a 7 year old child.
Jac loves to jump and shows promise as a Working Hunter Pony. He has also experienced a few days hunting which he tackled with bravery and enthusiasm!
In December 2013, Jac was re-purchased by the Kingmaker Stud and came home to France to be Helen's principal riding pony.
Kingmaker Adventurer - black colt, foaled April 2010.
Finn was originally sold to the Millowbridge Stud in Essex. He was lightly shown as a yearling and achieved success at local level and Equifest.
Due to a change in his owner's circumstances, Finn was gelded and re-homed. He was broken to ride by his new owner Fiona Mannings and proved to be a promising all-rounder, making steady progress in ridden showing, dressage, show-jumping and cross-country. Finn is now owned by the Tropman family in Devon.
Bryher de Kingmaker - bay filly, foaled 26th May 2011.
Bryher was sold in February 2012 to a new home in Staffordshire. She has been lightly shown in youngstock classes with wins at County level. Bryher was the 2014 Midlands Dales Pony Show Youngstock Champion. She was broken to ride in Summer 2015 and is progressing nicely under saddle.
Defender de Kingmaker - bay colt with a white star, foaled 27th May 2013.
Defender is owned by Gemma Allen who runs Lawn Hall Livery in Essex. Fen has recently embarked on his showing career. He was first in the Youngstock class at Ponies UK Winter Championships, Youngstock Champion at the Rare Breeds of the Year Show and Iceni native Pony Champion.
